“Lazy” Dog wins Defamation Case against Quick Brown Fox

A verdict has been reached in what many are calling the most memorable celebrity trial of the century. In the defamation case of Dog v. Fox, the judge ruled in favor of the plaintiff, Dog, to the amount of five-million USD, or 35 million in dog dollars. This verdict comes after months of litigation surrounding the phrase: “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.” often used to teach typing and handwriting classes. While at first glance it may seem innocent enough, The plaintiff alleged it unfairly maligned his work ethic for decades, causing him severe emotional and financial distress.

What was only meant to be an inside joke between former business partners Dog and Fox spiralled out of control after Fox leaked the sentence to the press, setting the typeface world on fire. “People immediately latched on,” recalled Cat, who had worked with the pair at the time of the incident. “I mean, you've got to admit it's impressive. It's got EVERY letter in the alphabet, and it makes sense. That's…I mean that's unheard of.”

“I haven't been able to get work for the past 140 (20) years! Who would hire someone who is nationally known for their laziness?” Dog said in his tearful testimony. “After a tenure as one of the barn's best sheep dogs, I was blacklisted overnight.” Dog says he plans on using the settlement to repair his image as a reputable and trustworthy employee, starting with launching his own line of herbal supplements. “Its not about how you get to the dream, it's about what you do when you get there. And this is it. Selling ashwagandha pills to five of my closest friends, who then sell them to five of their closest friends. What's lazy about that?”

We were unable to catch up to Fox after the trial as he is– admittedly– pretty quick, but his representation, Attorney Doug Pigeon, appeared undeterred by the verdict against them. “While Mr. Dog might have won today’s case, we plan on continuing our efforts to protect fair use and the freedom of speech, even if it ruffles some feathers.” Mr. Pigeon was unamused by our comments about the irony of his statement, and has threatened legal action against T&R.
