Oh Heck Yeah: Ellie Goulding Just Dropped 5 Girlboss Anthems to be Played Exclusively in Target, Starbucks, and The Mall!
Retail workers, rejoice! Our favorite pop icon Ellie Goulding just graced your workplaces with new tunes that are just for you, but more so your customers! Read on to hear an overview of these five new gems that are about to be stuck in your head, whether you like it or not!
1 My Baby Again
“Once my baby, twice my man,
Up in the gym, it’s a grand slam.”
Shoutout to the real fans who know Ellie’s passion for fitness, and, uh, duh-doy, this uptempo EDM bop is totally the energetic vibe I need when picking out full body deodorant, cuz yeah, that’s a thing now! There’s no part of our bodies that smells acceptable, ladies, so let’s hit Target and get our Goulding on while we browse!!
2 Grievances and Pleasures
“Tell you I love ‘im, got a problem with that?
Grievances and Pleasures, not takin’ it back!”
Rumor has it, “Grievances and Pleasures” was written for and in a Starbucks!! How cool is that? Cheeky, witty, and ever so glib (can you say Sabrina Carpenter?!), this masterpiece will get your confidence up–way up! You’re a total boss girl, so don’t be afraid to angrily confront that barista about where the hell the mobile order you placed six minutes ago is! Get ‘em!
3 Forget Me Forgetting You
“If I could remember you, I’d think you weren’t real,
I remember the colors, red, orange and teal.”
Woah. I’m sorry, where am I? Given the caliber of the ART I’m hearing right now, I’d say THE LOUVRE. But no, I’m just in Forever 21, browsing the clear backpacks and clear purses, shedding a freakin’ tear at this slow, emotional power-ballad that features a verse from none other than Jake Johnson from New Girl (we think). We know he’s not a singer, but it really sounds like him. I looked it up, and I couldn’t find the song at all. So, yeah, let’s just say it’s Jake Johnson. I’m either crying from the crooning, or the fresh, fresh, plastic scent of the clothes.
4 Waterfall and Sky
“Drip, drop, drip drip drip drop,
Stars above tell me not to stop.”
Many have referred to this song as the sequel to Ellie’s breakout hit, “Lights,” and I for one couldn’t agree more. In fact, I overheard two teenagers asking one another, “is this that song, ‘Lights’ by that one girl?” just before stealing body spray from Victoria’s Secret. There you have it, folks!
5 Right You Are, Dear
“Screamin’ my name, don’t you dare look away,
Fogo de chao, au bon pain.”
Okay, this one was a little confusing to me at first, I’ll confess, but once I heard that catchy-ass hook, I was all like, what the hell, sure. Let’s listen to this. My airpods are dead, and I’m so tired. Thanks Ellie G.!
